On Saturday we checked out a new shop in Gilmore Place, myBearpaw. Owned and run by Jo Avery, myBearpaw is hardly the new kid in (the craftscene-) town, with her Churchhill shop having been a destination for quilt fabric lovers for ages. The new shop and studio are a reincarnation of Jo’s original shop, allowing her to concentrate on her passion: quilting.
The back of the shop has a lovely workshop room and there are a variety of crafty classes on offer, not just quilting. Jo's working together with a number of experienced teachers, offering a varied programme for a number of crafts, including knitting and crochet.
In September this year, Jo hosts the one-day retreat "Stitchgathering". There might be some tickets left. Have a look here.
If you’re after some cool quilting fabric in Edinburgh, this is probably the best place to come to. Fabric stock includes Kona solids, Robert Kaufman, Dashwood, Windham, Blend, Riley Blake, Free Spirit, Rowan and others.
We’ve found also found a lovely selection of ribbons, buttons, embroidery thread and other haberdashery.
Jo also has a lovely selection of yarns in the shop and it’s well worth a visit for that alone. She stocks Rooster, Sublime, Auracania, Noro, Cygnet and some Sirdar.
The shop is only open on Fridays and Saturdays to allow her to focus on design work and workshops. We recommend that you check the website for details.
How to get there:
The Nr.10 Lothian Bus stops more or less at the front door.
50, Lochrin Buildings

Get yourself a day ticket and after you visit the shop, hop back on the number 10 for a few stops and stop at Piecebox for lunch/coffee & cake and to fondle your purchases.
