In the publicity for our first big event, we said we wanted to create 'Every knitter's dream department store for the weekend' and that has not changed a bit! The range and quality of what's on offer to you in the Marketplace is always great, and this coming year there's a good number of new-to-us exhibitors, many of them small producers with a real focus on 'sheep-to-yarn' as well as colour and spin. As usual we'll have exhibitors showing the very best in hand-dyed yarn, and we know that many are planning some special stuff for the event. Picking the very best exhibitors is a labour of love and to see them all at a glance, have a look here. If you're a fan of Brooklyn Tweed's perfect design aesthetic, you'll be delighted to hear that a team of theirs is going to be winging its way from Portland, Oregon, to join us this year.
It's not all yarn and knitting: as ever, there'll be spinning fibre, equipment, crochet, bags, buttons, kits, books, patterns and much, much more. And Louise Scollay, a.k.a. Knit British, is co-ordinating the Blacker Podcast Lounge once again, and we'll make sure to let you know nearer the time about the programme of interviews, yarn tastings and other sessions she has planned over the two days. If you want to hear us chatting with Louise about all things EYF, we were interviewed for the Knit British Podcast. It's worth a listen!
Rumbling away in the background, too, is our second Wool Tribe magazine. The 2016 edition is sold out, but we know you're going to love the Wool Tribe 2017 Festival Companion just as much. We've been working with the patterns and samples over the past few months and what the designers have come up with is beautiful. Right now the details are under wraps as we pull it all together, but as soon as we can let you know who, what and when, we will!
Although EYF is advertised as the 10th and 11th of March, we actually start on Thursday 9th with some classes and our Big Knit Night - so if you're arriving in the city then, perhaps at a loose end, there will be a very warm welcome for you on the Thursday night! We will also host an evening party on the Friday night again - by popular demand (Precise time/location information for both evening events will be available nearer to March - make sure you are on our mailing list if you don't want to miss info). Last year's Big Knit Night and Party was a lot of fun, and it's a great chance to meet with your yarny friends — or make new ones! — before you're overwhelmed by wool fumes at the Marketplace the next day.
Cant wait until March to hook up with loads of lovely knitters?
If you're looking for a bit of fun before then...what about a Christmas get-together? The Wool Tribe 2017 Christmas Party (tickets on sale here) is aimed squarely at yarn lovers like us, who'd like a Christmas night out with their sort of people! No office gossip, no best behaviour needed. It takes place from 5pm, 3rd Dec, at Akva on Fountainbridge, and there will be food, glögg, games and a raffle. But mainly great company — and bring your knitting! (Or crochet!)
So that's where we are right now: the hundreds of task lists and emails and meetings and ideas are being turned into good things! We'll keep you posted with all the information you need over the coming months. Look forward to seeing some of you in person at the Wool Tribe Christmas Party, and many more in March!
