Edinburgh Yarn Festival is the UK's Premier Contemporary Hand-Knitting Show
EYF 2017 is almost upon us — can you believe it? — and we have compiled a list of questions which come up a lot. If you want to make sure that you don't miss any updates, subscribe to our mailing list here.
The marketplace will be open in the Corn Exchange over Friday 10th and Saturday 11th March 2017. Opening times will be 10.00 to 17.30 on Friday and 10.00 to 17.00 on Saturday. If you have a 3-hour class place, you can access the marketplace at 9am (details will be sent to you closer to the event).
The class programme will run over Thursday 9th, Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday, 12th March 2017. We'll be using the Corn Exchange classrooms and the rooms at the Risk Factory (5 mins walk from the main venue) and the Water of Leith Centre (15 mins walk from the main venue). The main venue, the Corn Exchange, will only be open to the public (except Bert's Coffee Bar) on the days of the festival: 10th/11th March.
How do I buy a marketplace entry ticket?
Please refer to our Ticket page here. Advance tickets are now sold out and tickets will be available on the door (cash only; subject to availability). For advance tickets, you'll be asked to show your printed receipt (emailed to you by our ticketing system) at the desk at the entry point. If you buy a 3-hour class place: entry will be included in your class fee, so there will be no need to add this cost on.
Do children have to pay to get in?
Under-16s are free but must be accompanied by an adult.
Can I buy an entry ticket on the day?
Yes - cash only, though.
When can I see a list of who's coming to the marketplace?

When will the class programme be released?
Our Class Programme 2017 page is live but at this point, places are sold out.
How can I book a class?
We use an online booking system and you'll be asked to show your printed receipt at the desk at the entry point. Note that the cost of the class will include entry to the event on any day/s, so there will be no need to buy a separate entry ticket.
Will there be classes for children?
At this point, we are unfortunately unable to offer classes for children. The requirements to set-up and run classes for kids are simply not something we can accommodate at the moment. Likewise, we have been asked if we can provide a crèche service during the festival - sadly we cannot.
Please note we absolutely cannot admit babies or children to any classes we offer; children are very welcome at the main event, though!
Will there be an evening event?
Yes! We have a Big Knit Night on Thursday 9th March — all details are here. The Ceilidh on Friday 10th March is now sold out.
Will there be animals like sheep and alpacas?
No, we are very much an urban event - other events cover that aspect very well already :-)
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately not. (Guide dogs are of course permitted.)
What is the catering like? Are there any vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free options?
The Corn Exchange has several food-ordering points and coffee carts, not to mention its own public café (Bert's Coffee Bar). Sandwiches, soup, cakes, a couple of hot food options are on offer - plus we make sure there are vegetarian and gluten-free, and as far as possible, dairy-free options on the menu (while stocks last, of course). (The venue is right by a large 24-hour supermarket, in case we cannot cater for your needs.)
On the Thursday and Sunday, when classes are held in the Risk Factory, the Corn Exchange will not be open to the public for catering - with the exception of Bert's Coffee Bar, which is open to the public every day.
Do I bring cash or can I pay by card?
Each vendor has their own arrangement, and wi-fi can be a bit patchy in historic buildings such as the Corn Exchange. Cash is always welcome and the 24-hour supermarket next to the venue has a couple of cashpoints. Ask individual vendors for details. Lots do have portable card machines.
Can I download a map of the venue?
Can I leave my bags somewhere while I shop?
You can. The Teapot Trust, our charity partner, runs the cloakroom at the Corn Exchange whilst the marketplace is open. For a nominal charge, 100% of which goes to their charity, you can check coats, bags, and if necessary, luggage.
How do I get to the venue?

What is the parking like? Is there disabled parking?
The Corn Exchange does have a car park to the back of the venue: however, it's very busy at weekends as it's used by several other businesses. We highly recommend you come by public transport.
There is limited disabled parking available in the car park.
Where can I stay in Edinburgh?
(Are you a member of Ravelry? It's a brilliant website for yarn enthusiasts. We have our own group there which is a great source of information like this.)
We can't recommend specific accommodation, but have a look at this Ravelry thread for some ideas. Edinburgh has lots of clean, simple chain hotel accommodation like Ibis, Tune, Novotel, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Premier Inn. (Please note that we can't help you book accommodation.)
