This class is now SOLD OUT. If you would like to join our general Returned Class Spaces 2018 mailing list, please click here.

This class will teach you how to knit jogless helical stripes. When you knit stripes in the round, there is "jog" where you change from one colour to another. Working helically eliminates the jog, and any need to carry your yarn up the inside of the work. It is almost magical. After introducing the basic method of helical knitting to create single round stripes, we will apply the method to create jogless garter stitch in the round. The class will then investigate creating multi-round stripe patterns, as well as using more complex stitch patterns helically. Helical knitting is so simple and yet incredibly clever, and will make you look at your knitting in a totally new way.

Level: Suitable for confident beginners (who can knit in the round) onwards. Many advanced knitters won't have tried helical knitting, which is a shame as it's so much fun!

Skills needed: Need to know how to knit, purl, and knit in the round.

Materials to bring: Either 4ply (US fingering) or DK yarn is suitable for this workshop. You will need 4 different colours of yarn in your chosen weight. Around 15-25g of each colour is plenty. Your yarn should be smooth, not a novelty textured yarn. Wool, alpaca, silk, cotton, acrylic etc would all be suitable. Please wind one of the colours into two balls.
Please bring needles suitable for working in the round with your chosen weight of yarn (e.g. for 4ply yarn 2.25mm-3.25mm needles would be appropriate, or for DK yarn 3.5mm-4mm needles would be best).

Any "homework"?:Using one colour, cast on 30 sts (if you're using DK) or 40 sts (if you're using 4ply) and join to work in the round.
Knit 3 rounds.
