During this workshop you’ll be knitting a top-down yoke swatch in the round. You’ll practice two-color stranded knitting and learn how to choose colors for successful yokes. We’ll cover techniques for knitting smooth and crisp colorwork, learn about different yoke construction styles, go over short row and body shaping options, and learn how to follow a top-down yoke chart while you shape your yoke swatches using a fun invisible increase. Jenn will bring a lot of her yoke sweaters for you to check out and we’ll go over any specific questions you might have.
Skills needed: Students should have these preexisting skills: Knit/purl; cast on/bind off; increase/decrease; working in the round
Materials to bring: Knitting needles - size US 6 and/or 7 - 32" or longer circular needles for magic loop or dpns - Needles suitable for whichever small circumference method the student is most comfortable with.
Students will need dk weight wool yarn, at least 50g of main color, and 25g of coordinating color, making sure one is significantly darker than the other so the pattern contrasts against the background. If in doubt, take a black and white photo of the colors you’re considering and it'll give a more clear idea of the level of contrast. You can bring a variety of colors if you like, but we'll only need colors for the swatch we'll be knitting.
