Edinburgh Yarn Festival is the UK's Premier Contemporary Hand-Knitting Show
When: Thursday, 9th March from 16.00 till?
Booking: REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED DUE TO DEMAND!
Make sure you are on our mailing list so we can let you know of alternative suggestions to meet up with other knitters beginning of March.
For us, a big part of going to any yarny event is meeting friends old and new. There will be plenty of opportunity to do that at the Yarn Festival itself, but we thought it would be nice to designate a meeting point to kick-off celebrations. After all, it seems an almost universal custom that Thursday night is "knit-night", right?
Akva is located close to the city centre and right on the number 35 bus route, so if you're coming back into town after a workshop at the Risk Factory or the Water of Leith Centre on Thursday - this would be a convenient stop. The bar serves food and drinks with a Swedish twist. Check our the food menu here.
The booking system helps us to gauge numbers, it's not a guaranteed seat reservation. If you book a slot from 4pm-6pm, remember that there are others coming at 6 and later :-)
If you bought an EYF ticket online, you will be able to pick up your wristband between the hours of 16.00 and 19.00. This will enable even quicker access to the market place on Friday and Saturday morning and it helps us to manage the queues even better. If you *just* want to pop into the venue to collect your wristband there's no need to register, but we highly recommend that you come as early as possible to do so.
What to expect at Akva
There’s no programme or anything, we simply designated Akva as a meeting spot for the knit-night because we like the place. The evening is what YOU make of it, it’s not up to us :-) We will be busy setting up the marketplace for you!
What does booking a slot mean?
Booking the slot doesn’t mean that you have a table or seat reservation. It’s just a mechanism to help the venue understand how many people are coming.
Can I stay beyond the booked slot?
In principle yes, nobody will eject you from your seat :-) Saying that, if you’ve arrived very early, had a nice time for a couple of hours and see it gets very busy later one, it may be nice to maybe move on with your group to a nearby overflow venue (we will provide some info on that nearer the time). Its entirely up to you.
Will you be able to buy a ticket at Akva?
No - you will only be able to pick you your wristband. Pre-order a ticket here and bring your e-ticket along (printed!).
I want to collect wristbands for my friends, can I do that?
We only give out wristbands for tickets that were purchased by you and for which you have the ticket.
Will you be able to pick up your pre-ordered copy of Wool Tribe*?
At this point we haven’t decided that yet. Assume that collection will only be possible at the festival venue (Corn Exchange) itself. We will keep you posted on that though! (*Wool Tribe is our event companion magazine! Pre-sale will launch next week on Wednesday! Make sure you are on our mailing list if you don’t want to miss an update!)
Akva is located at the end of the Union Canal, a waterway that connects Edinburgh with Glasgow. The venue is easily accessible on foot from the city centre. Alternatively, take the number 35 bus which stops very close to the bar. The name of the stop is "Port Hamilton".
