If you harbour a desire to see your name in print – and maybe even on the cover of your favourite knitting magazine – this workshop is for you. Karie Westermann will take you through how to answer magazines' call for submissions. This is a hands-on workshop where you will learn to work with mood boards, figure out how to format eye-catching submissions, and gain insight into what commissioning editors look for. We will also talk about how to find your audience, how to tailor your ideas to different magazines, and how to turn designing into work.
Skills needed: A basic understanding of how to design
Ability to produce a PDF
Materials to bring: A blocked swatch
Pen & paper
Any "homework"?: Students will be given a PDF moodboard before the class (in January) & will need to email Karie one basic design idea a week before the class. They will need to bring the related swatch to the class. The swatch should be at least 4" x 4" /10cm x 10cm and blocked. The type of yarn used does not matter.
