In this class we will practice working two versions of a seamless set-in sleeve construction, the Short Row Set In Sleeve and the Simultaneous Set In Sleeve.
Examples of sweaters using these constructions will be available to view in class.
Skills focus: Topics covered include; picking up stitches, short row methods, three-needle bind off and Magic loop knitting.
Skills needed: Some experience in sweater knitting is encouraged.
Materials to bring: Worsted weight yarn of your choice (approx 200 yards) and appropriately sized needle to give good tension (not too loose).
Please bring either a long circular needle or dpn's depending on your preference for knitting small circumference in the round.
"Homework": Before you begin, divide up the yarn you are using by winding off approximately a quarter of the total amount into a separate ball.
Using worsted weight yarn of your choice (approx 200 yards) and appropriately sized needle CO 30 sts and knit 3 rows.
Continue in Stockinette St for another 6 rows.
Next Row (RS): K12, join the other ball of yarn and BO the next 6 sts, knit to end.
Working both sides of the knitting at the same time (with the separate balls of yarn) purl 1 wrong side row.
Dec Row (RS): Knit to 3 sts before the bound off sts, k2tog, k1, after the bound off sts work k1, ssk, knit to end. 2sts decreased.
Continue in stockinette st and repeat decrease row every RS row another 2 times.
9 sts remain on each side of knitting.
Continue in Stockinette St for another 21 rows ending with a WS row.
Cut both yarns leaving long tails and place live sts on separate pieces of scrap yarn.
Please bring the remaining yarn after homework is completed and needles that you used. Please also bring dpns and one 40-inch circular in the same size.
