This class is all about taking your shawl knitting to the next level and covers skills like picking up stitches, knitting different shawl edgings (i-cord, picot and a knitted-on edge), working simple short rows, managing stripes and blocking shawls. We will also explore how you might make shawls bigger, so you can use up your yarn, and there’ll be some tips on choosing colour combinations for shawls, including speckled and variegated yarns.
By the end of the class each student will have created at least two mini-shawls and have worked through the process of blocking one of these cute little shawls, so that it’s finished off beautifully!
Skills needed: Some previous experience of knitting shawls; ability to follow a chart
Materials to bring: 2 colours of double-knit weight yarn (approx. 50g each)
4.5 mm circular needles, and one double-pointed needle or spare straight needle, also 4.5mm
Blocking pins (approx. 30)
