Starting with an innovative 2 colour cast on, this class will explore new ways of working with the classic Fair Isle colour work techniques. I will explore colour and texture within this medium, using the classic float on both sides of the fabric, and we will introduce ribbons and unusual fibres into the knit and create travelling Fair Isle sections in our sampler. A very creative and colour-based class allowing our imaginations to run wild!
Level: Intermediate to advanced
Skills needed: Knitting in the round. Purl Fair Isle. Colour work, stranding and weaving floats.
Materials to bring: Please bring a selection of needles: 3.25, 3.75 and 4mm needles (straights and dpns) plus a wide selection of 4ply and DK weight wools. We will supply some interesting contrasting ribbons and fibres to add into the mix! Be creative with your colour choice and bring a wide range in the colour palette you would like to explore.
Any “homework”?: Homework could include some practice knitting Fair Isle on straight pins and including the wrong side or purl row using 2 colours.
