Learn how to translate elements of the Edinburgh landscape into stranded colourwork. Work from photos taken in Edinburgh and a carefully curated palette of Jamieson and Smith yarn to discover colours, patterns and shading schemes for your knitting.
Discover how Felicity Ford developed ideas for her book, the KNITSONIK Stranded Colourwork Sourcebook and begin creating your own swatch based on the city of the Edinburgh Yarn Festival. The Colours of Edinburgh class includes:
• playing with a wide range of different yarn shades
• finding patterns in unexpected places and landscape photos
• experimenting with shading
• swatching in the round and working a steek
There will also be an opportunity to see and examine the 12 swatches created for the KNITSONIK Stranded Colourwork Sourcebook and the objects, photos and drawings associated with their production.
Skills needed: In order to get the best from this class knitters will need to know how to knit in the round with two colours at a time; this means it is not suitable for beginners.
Materials to bring: You will need to bring a set of 2.5mm DPNs or a circular needle as is your preference for knitting in the round and some squared notepaper.
Any "homework"?: None
(This class also runs at 10am on Friday 10th March.)
