This is a playful class where we will experiment with colour and texture to create colourful working swatches. After the class, students can use these swatches as reference points for their next multi-coloured project.
Beginning with some colour theory, we will explore different colour combinations through the use of striping, textured stitches, lace patterning, fading and more. We will also experiment with holding yarns double to create marled effects and try out combinations of speckled and variegated yarns.
Level: Adventurous beginner/intermediate
Skills needed: Basic knitting skills: knit, purl, casting on and off. Useful but not essential: able to knit lace patterns and read a chart
Materials to bring: Small amounts of different yarns (leftover yarn would be perfect!) in a variety of colours and if you have them, in different weights and textures (eg lace-weight, brushed mohair etc).
If possible, a variety of needle sizes, but if not, then needles to match the weight of yarn (eg 3.75 mm for fingering-weight yarn).
Smart phone – we will be photographing yarn combinations, so a smartphone or camera will be useful but not essential.
Any "homework"?: none
Class size: 10
Extra note: This class takes place on Wednesday EVENING!
